Renaissance emphasizes its family atmosphere. Alumni return to Renaissance to rekindle relationships with teachers, staff and each other. Some of the school’s proudest moments are watching former students walk out into the world as successful, responsible human beings, but an added bonus is when they bring that world experience back.
Renaissance is proud to say they have three alumni on staff: Jose Mane, class of 1999 is teaching high school Humanities; Alex Smith, class of 2000 is coaching several teams and is the athletic director for PSAL Sports; and Pierre (PJ) Dizon, class of 2005, is a middle school social studies teacher. We are also happy to announce that Conor McCoy, graduate of the class of 2002, is now a member of our Board of Trustees and the President of the Friends of Renaissance board. He looks forward to reaching out to our alumni and have them participate in the continued success of Renaissance.
The school is starting the new generation of the Renaissance family as several of its alums are parents with children who were picked in the lottery. The alumni parents regularly volunteer at school, on the PTA and the CSG.
2003 Graduate Doris Avila is helping to organize a bigger and more active Alumni Organization at Renaissance. Along with staff member Peggy Heeney and 2002 alumnus Conor McCoy, she will be busy tracking down all members of former graduating classes for fun activities, informational events, and service to the school and community.
